Ten weeks pregnant is an interesting little stretch of time. You may feel extremely pregnant while still looking, to everyone else, pretty much the same. Meanwhile, the baby has been busy. Naturally, you want to see what is actually going on in there. That is why searches for a ten week ultrasound are so common. Ten weeks is also when At Home Sono sessions begin, so here is what to know before you plan your first peek.
Ten weeks is still early, but there is more to see
Pregnancy develops quickly during the first trimester, and even a few days can change what appears on an ultrasound. At 10 weeks, the image is beginning to look more recognizable, but every pregnancy and every session is different. An elective ultrasound should never be used to determine whether a pregnancy is developing normally. That belongs with your medical provider. At Home Sono is intentionally non medical. We are here for the moment of seeing your baby, not interpreting what the image means medically.
What might a baby look like at 10 weeks?
Still tiny, but increasingly recognizable. At 10 weeks, you are not expecting the detailed profile you might see later in pregnancy, but the baby is no longer quite as mysterious on screen. A head and body may be easier to distinguish, and you may catch small movements depending on baby position and the moment. Somehow, seeing that little shape move across your own television can make the pregnancy feel considerably more real.
Why does At Home Sono start at 10 weeks?
For At Home Sono, 10 weeks is the starting point. We are a non medical keepsake experience, and we want the session to give families something meaningful to watch together. By 10 weeks, there is more to see on screen while the pregnancy is still very much in the first trimester. If you need imaging before 10 weeks for a medical reason, your prenatal provider is the right place to start.
What is the difference between a medical ultrasound and At Home Sono?
A medical prenatal ultrasound exists to collect medical information. An At Home Sono session exists to give your family time with the image. That distinction matters. Our sessions do not diagnose pregnancy conditions, assess fetal health, confirm viability, establish gestational age, or replace care from your OB or midwife. Think of us as the experience that happens around the ultrasound.
Your partner gets to watch without standing awkwardly beside an exam table. Grandma can come. Your other kids can come. Nobody has to arrange themselves around a tiny medical monitor. The image can appear on your television while everyone watches from the living room.
Can family watch my ultrasound?
That is one of the best reasons to have an ultrasound at home. Medical appointments are understandably designed around providing medical care. Guest policies, space, timing, and schedules can make it difficult to turn those appointments into a family event. Home does not have a waiting room. You choose who is there. Maybe it is just you and your partner.
Maybe your parents come over. Maybe your other children are sitting on a blanket with snacks while they wait to meet the tiny person everyone keeps talking about. It can be quiet and intimate or happily crowded. Both work.
Should I book at 10 weeks or wait a little longer?
That depends on what you want from the experience. If seeing your baby as soon as At Home Sono is available matters most to you, 10 weeks is a great place to begin. If you are hoping for an image that looks increasingly baby shaped, waiting another week or two may give you a little more to watch. Early pregnancy still varies from person to person, so no two sessions look exactly alike.
If you are ever worried about what should or should not be visible at a particular point in pregnancy, call your prenatal provider rather than trying to answer the question through an elective scan.
Ten weeks is still only the beginning
